Career Resolutions

It's quite a change from working somewhere where people thought I was too young to know anything to a place where I'm asked for my knowledge and opinion. I'm back in a place where I can problem solve and make suggestions.

I would much rather grow into a position, proving myself, than be in one where they decide, "This is as far as I think you can reach."

Since I was off-track and broken down, the last thing I wanted to do was study or really make any effort to better myself since I knew it wasn't going to get me anywhere anyway. Though an MBA might be in my distant future, for now I'm making it my goal to regain my passion and refocus my brain on marketing and graphic design.

1. Read blogs/books: I am so guilty of not prioritizing this section of my RSS feed. My Google Reader (now Feedly) was deeply backlogged. Caught up on HelloGiggles and The Beauty Department, sure, but I was really neglecting my design posts. Also adding more marketing feeds and books to my reading list.
2. Become better at proofing: Another confession: I'm a skimmer. I need to focus on really reading what I drop in especially considering all the accent marks in my trilingual copy. I need to pay more attention to detail.
3. Take classes/do tutorials: I need take more web classes, that part I know. Scheduling and cost being two important factors, if I can't do that right away, I should at least utilize the Internet and let it teach me a thing or two.
4. Take more photos: As in, use a camera, not a phone. As in actually compose a photo that isn't all drunken antics. I want to build a collection of stock photos. I'm on the fourth month of my photo a day challenge and I have to admit a lot of my photos this month look so forced.
5. Draw more: I tried to work on my illustration skills by giving myself a drawing a day challenge. No prompts, just draw something the size of a Post-It every day. I lasted 5 days. Pathetic. I've ordered a stylus for my iPad. I need to figure out which app is worth my money though.
